be demonstrated. |
Advanced Technology for Improved Surgical Outcomes
Intermediate-Advanced Level
Demonstration through case examples of the impact of technology on surgical decision making. Benefits of IOLMaster and Cirrus HD OCT to drive improved surgical outcomes will be discussed. |
Sutureless Ocular Surface Reconstruction Using
Amniograft
and Prokera
Basic Level
Workshop Leader: Scheffer C.G. Tseng, MD, PhD
This course will focus on amniotic membrane transplantation, used as a temporary graft with or without sutures (in a new device called Prokera) and as a permanent graft with or without sutures (using fibrin glue). This is a newly approved surgical procedure for ocular surface reconstruction in many corneal and external diseases. Attendees will learn the most up-to-date information on the indications for and limitations of amniotic membrane transplantation, and will have been introduced to the techniques through a video demonstration of the surgical procedure designed to be incorporated into a general or subspecialty ophthalmic practice. |
Botox and Dermal Fillers in Ophthalmology:
The Basics
Basic Level
Workshop Leader: Steven G. Yoelin, MD
The basic principles regarding Botox and dermal fillers will be reviewed; this course will include live injections. |
The Importance of Corneal Biomechanical Properties in Clinical Practice
Intermediate Level
Corneal biomechanical property measurements such as Corneal Hysteresis and Corneal Resistance Factor are changing the way practitioners make important clinical decisions. This course will introduce attendees to the importance of measuring and considering these parameters, particularly in the cornea/refractive and glaucoma subspecialties. |
Pushing the Boundaries of Fourier-Domain OCT:
Extensive Clinical Applications for Your Practice
Intermediate Level
Workshop Leader: Michael Sinai, PhD
Faculty: Anne L. Coleman, MD, PhD; Nalin Mehta, MD
This course will cover the latest clinical applications for the new, high-speed,
high-resolution Fourier-Domain OCT. Main applications discussed will be for retina pathologies, glaucoma, anterior segment, and Doppler blood-flow. The course will cover unique 3-D imaging for retina and glaucoma, image registration for progression, volumetric analysis, the normative database, direct ganglion cell analysis, and more. New applications for the anterior segment, including cornea power calculations, will be covered in detail. An introduction in the exciting new Doppler blood-flow analysis will also be given. Numerous patient cases will be used to illustrate key points. |
Fluoroquinolone Update: Pharmacodynamics, Penetration, and Persistence

Panelists will review and provide clinical context for results of several new clinical studies evaluating fluroquinolone tear and intracameral concentrations over time. Results of most recent nationwide survey of antimicrobial susceptibility will also be discussed. |
Specular Photography

Workshop Leader: John Vacca
Explore the applications of the new gold standard in specular photography. |
Precision Immersion Biometry
 Intermediate Level
Workshop Leader: Rhonda G. Waldron, MMSc, COMT, CRA, ROUB, RDMS
Faculty: M. Bryan Waldron, CCOA, ROUB
Accurate biometry is essential in today’s ophthalmology practices particularly with the advent of premium IOLs. Today’s options are immersion biometry or optical biometry with immersion. This workshop begins with a lecture describing immersion technique and spike pattern recognition followed by a video and hands-on workshop where participants perform immersion biometry on
available equipment. |
